What is no till……………everybody has their own take on what no till is. There are so many terms in use today such as minimum till, no till, zero till and of course conventional farming. This video deals with where we are trying to get to and that is back to nature or as close to nature as possible. If we do this, we can reduce fertilizers, fungicides, pesticides and of course herbicides.
Please have a look and feel free to send me your thoughts on noeltobin@tobinnotill.com.au

As operator turn their attentions to the seeding 2014, many will be wondering how to improve their approach to No-Till farming whether it will be for moisture retention, managing stubble, decrease soil disturbance, increase efficiency, reducing inputs, saving fuel/tractor hours/labour or a combination of reasons.

Burring off stubble is the only option many operator have so that they can simply place seed in the ground. This approach in a majority of situations is a very substantial disadvantage. “I have seen two paddocks on either side of the fence one planted in stubble from previous years with a Tobin, the other in a burn off paddock. I was amazed how lush the Tobin crop was when compared to the burnt paddock.” Said Luke Aguirre – Tobin No-Till Sales and Marketing Manager. “The burnt off paddock was seriously facing crop failure, it looked that stressed.”

If you are looking for a solution to improving your No-Till program, Tobin No-Till have very limited stock available for seeding 2014 delivery. Contact you nearest Tobin No-Till dealer or Tobin No-Till directly to find out what models are available.

As harvest wraps up for some operations and only just begins in other areas of Australia, many operators are going to need to think about their approach to stubble management. With many bumper crops this season, operators are finding themselves with higher than average stubbles. Most approaches to dealing with stubble require tractor hours, labour, and fuel, all these at a cost to the operation – and potentially next year’s crop.

Should you have the ability to plant through any amount of stubble left on a paddock you can set up your harvest to take just the grain. This will increase the capacity of any header, regardless of badge, and means harvest can take place in a shorter time frame while minimising the risk of losses due to conditions.

Keeping standing stubble on the paddock between programs is a definite plus in a true no-till operation. Stubble will slow the velocity of wind at ground level preventing wind blast and erosion; when the rains (finally) arrive, the stubble slows the speed of water runoff and holds the soil together, again preventing erosion and assisting in moisture infiltration; and then during next season’s crops establishment, the standing stubble provides shelter during emergence.

Direct drilling with a Tobin into any amount of stubble with confidence will mean less stress. Come seeding time you can get in and just get the job done! And done at speeds of up to 25kph! Most operators average 16-20kph, however if conditions demand, you can bump it up

A core focus of the Tobin range is to provide this flexibility to the farmer so that planting can efficiently take place when the timing is right and not when the conditions allow.

As part of reforms by the Australian Government regarding the Carbon Tax, the Conservation Tillage Machine Refundable Tax Offset has been repealed. This will come as a shock to many

As part of reforms by the Australian Government regarding the Carbon Tax, the Conservation Tillage Machine Refundable Tax Offset has been repealed.

This will come as a shock to many farmers who expected an additional year take advantage of the program to update their no till equipment or commence no till practices. Although the offset expires in June farmers will want the equipment in April at the latest to plant their 2014 winter crops. This means that there is even less time to take advantage of the incentive.

The offset available is 15% off the purchase price of the new equipment. The offset applies only to new no-till seeding implements, with or without a seed cart. To be eligible equipment must be delivered and installed before the 30th of June 2014. Participants will also need to fill out a Research Participation Certificate to be eligible. Please seek advice from your financial advisor to ensure you, and the product you are looking at, are eligible for the tax offset.

“This is a massive saving worth about $40K on a 40ft disc machine” explained Noel Tobin, Managing Director of Tobin No Till, and continued to say “I’m shocked that the government has taken such action and with such short notice”. The news comes as farmers are waist deep in harvest for 2013 and might not realise the repeal has occurred. Those looking to invest in a new Tobin No-Till planter will need to act quickly to ensure machine availability.

Additionally November 2013 is the last month that the Tobin No-Till early order program runs. The early order program from Tobin No-Till, in combination with the government tax offset, will lead to massive savings for operators and make a good difference to their bottom line. Contact Tobin No-Till or your Tobin Dealer and discover just how much you will benefit by making a solid decision this November.

Tobin No-Till are hitting the road with our “Demo Rig” this April and May across Australia. Why? To showcase how a Tobin Drill works in your soils, ‘in your paddock’. The “In Your Paddock” no-till demo tour will be hosted in conjunction with your local Tobin No-Till dealer or direct should you not have a local dealership.

This is a great opportunity to see the Tobin operate in your own soils, be it sticky mud, rocks, hard soils or unbelievable stubble loads. Having the Tobin No-Till Drill in your own paddock will demonstrate the outstanding soil flow that minimises disturbance and keeps the dry soil on the surface and retains only the moist soil at depth around your seeds.

The proof is In Your Paddock, so invite Tobin No-Till to your farm this April and May!

Assembly of Tobin No-Till’s first disc seeder in Russia is currently underway in Volgograd. Planting trials will commence immediately upon assembly completion.

The Tobin No-Till disc seeder has generated strong interest in Kazakhstan and Russia after Expos in both countries and first trials recently in Kazakhstan. Many farmers are watching these trials closely and see enormous potential for the seeder if trials are successful.

After a recent visit to Australia to see the machine in action, a group of 10 farmers want to see it operate with their own eyes on home soil. Potential for productivity improvements is very large and the Russian trials will be witnessed by many farmers from across Russia.

The Tobin machine has also generated strong interest from Government officials in Kazakhstan who are intent on bringing leading edge farming technologies such as the Tobin No-Till disc seeder into the country.

The father-and-son team farm near Nagambie and Euroa, and have switched to a Tobin no-till disc drill to improve seed-to-soil contact.

The Millikens are planting 1000ha of crops, including canola, faba beans, wheat and triticale.
So far they are impressed with the new planter’s trash-handling ability in a year when it has been difficult to burn stubble because of high moisture levels.

“This year other farmers are having hell’s trouble because of the stubble,” Ian said.
“Some have had to buy stubble mulchers because it has been difficult to burn the stubble due to the wet.”

Ian said the disc machine had no trouble handling the trash and getting good soil-to-seed contact, unlike the tined machine last year.

“With the Tobin planter we had none of those big lumps that the tined machine pulled up last year,” he said.

There were considerable fuel savings, too.

“This year, in similar conditions to last year, we are going 4km/h faster than last year with the same width tined planter and using six litres of fuel per hour less.”

Low maintenance was another attraction.

“There’s nothing to go wrong with it,” Ian said. The planter is made by agricultural machinery manufacturer Tobin No-Till in Forbes, NSW.
Tobin director Noel Tobin said the planter was capable of sowing efficiently up to 25km/h.
His confidence in the machine is reflected in the three-year warranty on all the ground-engaging bearings such as disc bearings, press wheel bearings and muffler wheel bearings.

“We are very happy that we have been able to ensure farmers can plant regardless of conditions, be they large volumes of trash, rocks or sticky soils,” Noel said.

“Farmers cannot be expected to start trash handling at harvest time, and most times cannot afford to wait for ideal conditions.

“This is where our machine can make a difference.”
Noel said the planter had six grease nipples on a 12m machine and this, coupled with 610mm sowing discs and 610mm press wheels, had virtually eliminated the need for in-field maintenance.
The Tobin planter is available in various spacings from 250mm up and sizes ranging from 6.1m to 22m.
In addition to lower fuel consumption, the company claims other advantages including lower labour costs with fewer passes and improved crop yields from more accurate seed placement and higher retention of soil moisture and stubble.
